How could I leave Gloria out of WHM recognition? I couldn’t. Truth is, there are so many amazing feminists throughout history and in present day working towards fighting against institutions, ideologies, laws, and individuals who prevent full equality for all people. I look up to many feminist women, but Gloria Steinem is truly my idol.

As Gloria has been an active feminist, writer, lecturer, and superhuman since the 60’s, I would like to highlight some of her achievements that I am grateful for:
So thank you, Ms. Steinem, for fighting so hard, and continuing to fight and educate.
Thank you feminist-slut; I must have been so excited by how badass the picture was I failed to double check! So, here is my accurate homage to Alice Paul:

Even gonna through in a little Alice Hillary Swank Paul:

thanks fem-slut, cheers :)
Hey Rick! I know you’re really busy trying to ban porn, especially gay porn, but uhm, in the meantime, can you stop eating your ice cream all sexy-like?? YOU’RE TURNING ME ONNN!!!

So I personally am pretty fed up with all of the gender-essentialistic beliefs and values our society holds as truth and absolute. These beliefs negatively effect children, teens, women, men, and others. Those who perpetuate such beliefs maintain that by nature, men and women are inherently different, and this difference is good, because then men and women have different purposes and roles. Men and women cannot transcend these roles, but are expected to behave in accordance with societies essentialistic beliefs and and perform their own gender in the manner that society dictates it should be performed. Adam Carolla, professional sexist, authored Men Becoming Chicks, in which he argues that the roles of men and women are starting to blend together, and this is dangerous.
Carolla was interviewed on CNN , which you can watch here, and he discussed his outlandish views on gender. The two show hosts were about as clueless to the differences between gender, biology, gender identity, sexual orientation, etc., as he is, and the whole 2 minutes is completely infuriating in multiple ways, especially when Carolla suggests the importance of gender difference in parenting (children must know that this is Daddy, he does X, and this is Mommy, she does Y)…what about queer/gay/lesbian/trans/single parents???? Ugh.
The part of Carolla’s interview that really peaked my interest is that he reasoned that gender differences happen in the animal kingdom, because gender differences are natural. He commented that female polar bears aren’t protesting the fact that male polar bears go hunting while the females babysit the cubs, because that’s just the way it is!
Great point, Carolla. Let’s just let the animal kingdom dictate how we should act. Fuck the fact that we have cognition, critical thought, and opposable thumbs, lets just be on the same level as animals, and lets start living like this:
1. Bonobo’s monkeys, whom are the closests relatives to us in the mammal kingdom, are extremely sexually fluid. They have heterosexual and homosexual tendencies, and they use orgies and other acts of sexuality to solve conflict between group members.
Carolla, you’re advocating that we accept nature and let animals be examples for us of how nature is. Why then, do you also frequently slut-shame and go on tirades about the over-sexualized teenagers running around in our society. Don’t you know sexuality is a part of nature?
2. Homosexuality is found in multiple animal species (eh, 1500 to be exact)
Carolla, I hope you’re pro-gay rights, because plenty of animals out there are.
A little more outlandish arguments now..
3. In certain black widow spider species, a female black widow spider will kill and eat the male black widow spider after mating.
I’m a female; if we are to live by the rules of the animal kingdom, then the next time I have unsatisfactory sex, I am going to kill and eat my partner.
4. Infanticide
Insects, birds, fish, and mammal animals practice infanticide. An example of the array of different creatures that do this; rats, eastern grey squirrels, lions, African hunting dogs, butterflies (will eat the eggs of other butterflies), bottle-nosed dolphins, baboons, and gulls.
If we are to follow the animal kingdom, like Carolla suggests, then we should be able to eat our young when we’re starving, kill our young if we think they’re too weak, or kill others young so that we may mate with them.
Overall, here’s what I’m saying - Carolla, you can’t take a random species from the animal kingdom and use their supposed lifestyle as an argument to, basically, why feminism should end, why little boys should not play with dolls, and why women and men should embrace their inherent differences (women are just so good with an ironing board!).
There are practices in the animal kingdom, such as sexual practices, that we could equate our own sexual practices with; we could use the Bonobo’s monkeys, for instance, to normalize fluid sexuality…an argument I would be apt to support. We could also take the fact that about 1500 animal species have homosexual members to show society that homosexuality is a part of nature, not an illness or lifestyle choice.
But obviously, just because female spiders kill their sexual partners or some animals kill their young, that doesn’t mean that is what we should do, and that doesn’t mean it is part of our nature. Just because female polarbears aren’t picketing out of the ice for job opportunities does not mean that female women should be content with staying at home (becuase female polar bears apparently are).
Stop with the fucking essentialistic beliefs, fuck off Carolla and the like, and don’t use the animal kingdom to support your weird, naturalistic beliefs (because that can backfire on you quickly)
A little late, sorry folks; but here’s the jam - “Might Like You Better” by Amanda Blank. It’s honest, abbrasive, overtly sexual, and as YADL sees it, sexually autonomous. Amanda knows what she wants, expresses her sexuality, and creates a song that will most likely be stuck in your head.
